Report on the Baltic Cup Regatta 2016 organized in Hamburg Germany

Baltic Cup Regatta, Hamburg Germany, 01. – 02. October 2016

It was the twenty third edition of Baltic Cup Regatta which started in 1994.

The venue of this year regatta - was excellent rowing course in Hamburg.

Organizing Committee did an excellent work, so regatta were very sucessful. The rowing course in Hamburg and the Organizing Committee has proved that they can fulfill the tasks of  demands for the top of Rowing Championships Regatta.

Young oarsmen and oarswomen between 15 and 17 year of age took part in the regatta. There were rowers from 9 countries (Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania,  Poland ). The German Rowing Federation, as the host could apply two teams: A and B. Unfortunately for the next time, the young athletes from Byelorussia and Russia did not take part in regatta.

Baltic Cup include  5 classes of boats for junior women, and 5 classes of boats for junior men

(4-, 1x, 2- , 2x , 4x-).

The distance for races was 2000 m on Saturday, and 500 m on Sunday. During two days of races weather conditions were good, sometime with sunshine, no rain and very delicate wind.

Athletes, coaches, team managers, did  stay in youth hostels in the town. Transport between the regatta course and  accommodation place was afforded by respective Rowing Federations itself.

Breakfasts we had at hostels, the lunches and dinners were served for all the crews in restaurant nearby the finish area. The quality of meals, were good for all the rowers.

After each race the first three crews were honoured at the Victory Stage, and all the rowers from these crews got medals. This year the overall winner (Federation which had the highest score in the 2000 m races and the 500 m races) was German Rowing Federation.

Each crew participating in a race got points depending of which rank they got in their race. The results from the two days races were following:

1.Germany           207 points

2.Denmark         178 points

3.Poland             174 points

4.Sweden           118 points

5.Lithuania          98 points

6.Norway             92 points

7.Estonia             89 points

8.Latvia                 43 points

9.Finland               19 points

We had also very nice  social program. Organizing Committee organized for the all participants the

visit to the “Miniaturwunderland” in the town.

Three very important new informations:

  1. 1.    Next Baltic Cup Regatta will be held between 07-08 of October 2017 in Brest Byelorussia .
  2. 2.    Baltic Cup Regatta in 2018 will be held between 29-30 of September 2018 in Kruszwica Poland.
  3. 3.    On the base of many discussions and thoroughly recognition, the working group of Baltic Cup Regatta, decided the small incrising of full board expences per person per day to 70 EUR. This was imposed by the steady incresing of prices  the food and accomodation during events.
